How Long Does Waxing Last?

Tired of shaving? Tired of the ingrown hairs and frequent touch up sessions in the shower? Thankfully, many others find themselves in the same boat and have chosen to rely on waxing to take care of any unwanted body hair. But how long does waxing last? In this article we’re covering the basics of waxing, as well as how long you should expect your results to last.

How long does waxing last after the first time?

Each hair follicle goes through a growth phase, a resting phase, and a shedding phase that continues even after shaving. Although waxing will always provide longer periods of hair-free skin, the results from your first session may not last as long as your second, third, or fourth waxing appointment.

This is because of your hair growth cycle. Although the hair above the surface of the skin gets removed, there are strands of new growth below the surface of the skin that waxing won’t be able to address. After around two to three consistent sessions, though, your hair growth cycles should be synchronized, giving you longer-lasting results.

And first time waxers can expect results to last around two to three weeks. This number can vary depending on the area you’re waxing, genetics, and hormones.

How long does a Brazilian wax last?

When it comes to getting a Brazilian wax, results can last around four to five weeks if it’s consistent. Due to the coarse texture of pubic hair, new growth takes a bit longer to develop and surface in comparison to other areas of the body. Fortunately, one of the benefits of consistent waxing is that coarse hair becomes finer and sparser over time due to the damage the root of the hair follicle experiences post-wax.

How long does a full-body wax last?

Interested in full body waxing? A full body wax usually tackles unwanted hair on the legs, arms, back, bikini area, face, and underarms. Since this process targets multiple places on the body with various hair thickness, it’s likely that each area will grow back at a different growth rate.

How long does a leg wax last?

Both leg hair and arm hair tend to grow back at a moderate rate, leaving clients who’ve received leg waxes with around four to six weeks of hair-free skin after they’ve established a regular waxing routine. As long as you stay consistent, the time between appointments should get longer.

How long does eyebrow waxing last?

Waxing hair on your eyebrows is slightly different from the hair located on other parts of your body. Although brow hairs are generally coarser by default, the growth cycle is much faster than the hairs on your head, arms, and legs. Most clients see results last around two weeks after waxing brows. Again, the more consistent your appointments, the longer your results will last—even up to three weeks.

Will waxing stop hair growth permanently?

While waxing can modify how quickly or how dense regrowth will be, it’s not considered a permanent hair removal solution. Here’s a deeper look into why this is:

Slowing hair growth with waxing

For the most part, waxing will simply help slow down the rate at which your hair regrows. As each individual strand of hair is removed, it slightly damages the hair follicle, requiring the body to put more time and effort into repairing the root before being able to produce any new growth.

Does the wax type matter?

Choosing between hard wax and soft wax will not affect the longevity of your hair wax results, but it can affect how your skin reacts to your waxing session. Be sure to have a discussion with your wax technician about what waxes they use and how it may interact with your skin. For special allergies or skin conditions, consult with a certified dermatologist.

How to make waxing last longer

Believe it or not, there are ways to prolong your waxing results! Here are a few easy ways to get the most out of your wax appointment:

Exfoliate

Exfoliating not only helps in preventing ingrown hairs, it creates the perfect environment for any body wax to bond effectively to your unwanted hairs. Be sure to exfoliate 24 hours prior to your appointment for best results.

Wax regularly

The best way to ensure long-lasting results is to stay consistent with your appointments. Routine sessions will always equate to longer lasting results, whether it’s a bikini or Brazilian wax.

Avoid shaving

When clients choose to shave between appointments, any and all progress is practically reset to day one. Don't throw away your hard work—avoid shaving for optimal results.
